Choosing Your Location
School groups have two options as to how they would like to participate. A school group can either participate as a field trip at one of our select host city locations at 6:30pm on Wednesday March 4th, 2020 or they can choose to participate on site at your school as a “Virtual Group” at a time of your choosing on March 4th, 2020. If you are uncertain which option might be best for your group please feel free to send us an email at thesecretmarathon3k@gmail.com with your questions and we can help advise.
Participating at a host city location
Please ensure each student has had their parent sign their race form (2020 race form available in January) as well as any field trip forms required by your school.
Upon arrival on site please find the Race Director or Registration Lead and they will be happy to assist you with a fast-tracked registration on site.
Planning a route at your school
If your school is participating as a Virtual Location you can mark out a path on your school grounds or local community. We suggest the following options.
High School Basketball Court (84x50ft or 81.6m) - 36 laps
Around a soccer field (75mx55m) - 11.5 laps
Out and back route - 1.5km
*Although it may seems like a lot of laps, it is good to remind students that many of the women in Afghanistan train for the marathon in a space even smaller than the size of the school gym since they cannot train outside. Imagine doing 504 laps! That’s the number of times it would take to do the whole marathon if you were running around a high school basketball court.
